Agriculture in the Developing Nations I

Fall 2002

Agriculture in the Developing Nations I is offered for 2 credits (letter grade only) and meets Fridays from 1:25-3:20, in room 404 Plant Science. The goal of this course is to acquaint students with the major issues and problems in international agriculture and rural development and to show how problems in development are being addressed by international, government, and non-government agencies. The lectures and discussions attempt to establish the global context for sustainable agricultural development and focus on agriculture in the tropics, using case studies of agricultural development in developing countries. This course may be taken as a stand-alone survey course in international agriculture, but it is also the preparatory course for participation in INTAG 602 - Agriculture in the Developing Nations II , which includes a trip to India during the January 2003 intersession.
