One Course -- 2 Sections.
- Section 1: Mexico (T. Tucker and R. W. Blake)
- Section 2: India & Thailand (K. V. Raman and W. R. Coffman)
The goal of this course is to acquaint students with the
major issues and problems in international agriculture and
rural development and to demonstrate how problems in development
are being addressed in the Gulf Region of Mexico, India and
Thailand. The lectures/discussions establish the global and
regional contexts for sustainable agricultural development
and focus
on development challenges in Latin America and Asia through
cases in southern Mexico, India and Thailand. This course
may be taken as a stand-alone survey course in international
agriculture
and rural development. However, it is primarily a preparatory
course for participants selected to participate in the spring
semester course IARD
602 - Agriculture in the Developing Nations II , which
includes a trip to Mexico (section 1), and India and Thailand
(section 2) during the January 2008 intersession. (see
