IARD 602 is one of four joint Cornell-Mexico courses on teaching platform of our 2004-2007 project (Teaching, Internships, Exchanges and Scholarships). TIES, Decision Support of Ruminant Livestock Systems in The Gulf Region of Mexico, is jointly funded by USAID-Mexico through ALO, Cornell University, and Three Mexican Partners. Our Partnership seeks improvement of productivity, profitability and rural incomes in the Gulf region through a system-oriented program of training and decission support to the ruminant livestock industry. A primary goal is to increase the ability of decision-makers to respond to changes in technologies, markets, or trade policies.
The Universidad Autónoma de Yucatán (UADY) is the lead Mexican partner institution. UADY seeks to foster a conductive atmosphere for critical analysis and reflection about domestic and world issues. Goals are to achieve sustainable social development through a framework of scientific knowledge, universal values, and the rescue and preservation of local and national cultures.
Other TIES partner institutions heavily involved in IARD 602 are the Universidad Veracruzana (UV) and the Instituto Nacional de Investigaciones Forestales, Agrícolas y Pecuarias (INIFAP). Each institution within this partnership has a strong commitment to international education activities. IARD 602 is also hosted by the Colegio de Postgraduados, Campus Cárdenas, Tabasco.
