This two-semester required course is to help students develop MPS project proposals for written and oral presentation in the second semester. Project proposals are developed in close collaboration with the Special Committee, especially the chairperson (advisor). The course plan includes the chairperson's participation at the oral presentation.

Fall semester. Activities in the first semester include

Spring semester. The agenda for the second semester is mostly planned and conducted by the students.
Activities include

Student teams meet with discussants prior to the theme sessions

to provide guidelines and information about the class

to facilitate introducing discussants to the class, and

to prepare for chairing the session.

Discussants are encouraged to give reading assignments in preparation for the theme sessions. Readings should be forwarded by student teams to the TA well in advance for copying and distribution (at least one week prior to the theme session).

A written outline of the project proposal is required one week prior to the oral presentation so the TA can distribute it.

Audiovisual requests are also needed well ahead of time. The advisor-approved written proposal is due by the end of the second semester.
