Description

The G. Burke Wright Scholarship Fund was established to encourage and strengthen the relationship between Cornell and Escuela Agricola Panamericana in Zamorano, Honduras. Mr. Wright was a Cornell alumnus and served as a member of the Board of Directors at Zamorano. The funds are to be used for such purposes as supporting travel by Cornell and Zamorano undergraduates to visit Zamorano to gain "hands-on" experience in agriculture outside the United States; to support travel by Cornell and Zamorano graduate students to visit the school, to interact with faculty and students to provide an international experience; and to facilitate faculty exchanges in support of research and study. A faculty committee has been organized to review proposals. Interested persons should prepare a brief proposal including the purpose of the visit, how this visit will strengthen the relationship between Cornell and Zamorano, and costs associated wit the trip. The selection will be based on the objectives of the fund: “to encourage and strengthen exchanges between the New York State College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Cornell University and Escuela Agricola Panamericana in Zamorano, Honduras." Zamorano is a learning-by-doing agricultural institution with a rigorous combination of classroom and field education for students from Latin America. More than 50 full time professors lecture 110 courses during the four-year program. The technical courses are complemented by forty-five field module practices. In addition, there is an extensive research and extension program implemented by professors and students, which enable the students to acquire field experience and new knowledge.
